My
Story
I've always been pretty
independent, so going off to college was a
really exciting time for me to test the
boundaries of freedom and start the journey to
total independence.
Along the way, I got good
grades, made new friends, experienced life on
my own terms, and managed to rack up
$15,000 in unsecured
debt in the process.
My dream of total
independence became a nightmare, as bad money
management and poor financial decisions caused
me to be denied a great job because I wasn’t
financially responsible. Bad credit, not bad
grades kept me from reaching my destination
immediately after college.
After three years of
frustration and working at a job (totally
unrelated to my major) I made my mess my
message.
Now as a former
debt-strapped college student I travel to
colleges, universities and high schools
nationwide to educate students about the
dangers of debt, empower them to make money
management a priority, entertain them with my
personal story, and enlighten students by
sharing my struggles and victories with money,
credit and debt.
With a B.S. in Mass
Communications from Norfolk State University,
and as a honorary member of the School of Hard
Learned Lessons I am proud to raise the
financial literacy bar among the very students
who will be the future of America.
